 Meagan's Musings... A Blog
Wednesday, 29 April 2009

Ok, so a little off-topic, maybe.  But maybe not.  After all, bit by bit I have watched those lovely, funny, witty and talented girls for weeks during those early morning breast-feeding sessions.  I have laughed with them, cried with them and gotten to know them like my own friends.  Now I have made my way through the 7th season dvd box set of this delightful TV series and it's come to the end.  No more.

Gilmore Girls

NO EIGHTH SEASON OF THE GILMORE GIRLS.  I can't believe it.
I'm going to miss them so much.   What's going to happen between Luke and Lorelai??  I have a good feeling about them, but still... I'd love to watch it, not imagine!  And Logan and Rory...??  Over for good?  I never could really quite like Logan 100%.  I'm sure there's someone else out there for her.  Boy I sound tragic.

But I wish the writers and the actors would re-think a movie, at least.  You know, something along the lines of SATC, where it fast-forwards a few years down the track and all the fans get to catch up on what's been happening for the last 5 yrs in 2 hours.  I don't care that Lauren Graham (Lorelai) and Alexis Bledel (Rory) were tired and relieved to be done with the whole show.  I don't care that the directors and producers said it was 'too complicated' to do another 13 episodes.... just give me a movie and I will be happy :-)

Time to go pick up the elder one from daycare.

    super nanny

She arrived on Easter Sunday, overweight luggage in hand. I’m not quite sure how she cleared airport check-in without being charged an arm and a leg. Did she have a shoe fetish or a new dumb-bell exercise regime I didn’t know about?
    Nope.
Just a suitcase full of presents for her adored grandsons.

Into the house she whooshed, like a shot of mint in my vanilla ice cream. Over the course of 5 days, a burned out Mummy regained some of her vim. She was able to enjoy a sleep-in till 7am and even almost managed a hint of a smile when her toddler yanked open the fridge door and upturned the carton of eggs onto the floor. She felt mostly human again – an awareness that had all but faded into the distance.

    Thank you Super Nanny.
    We miss you.

    Hurray!

We had, what I would call, a successful daycare session.  I didn't ring and check after leaving this time (despite his tears).  You know, didn't want to seem like an annoying first-time Mum or anything.  So when my mobile rang a few hours later and I saw "Daycare" flash up on the screen, my heart dropped beyond my feet.  My first image was of another kid lying on the ground sporting a half-gouged eye, the next image was of Lucas lying on the ground under the climbing frame with a nicely cracked head.

Relief washed over me when, in fact, I found out it was just a lovely courtesy call to tell me my 'adorable' son had settled very quickly and was going great guns. *crack open bottle of champers and insert straw*

The day ended with the cutest of Easter Parades, a sugar fix for the kids and my first real after-separation-welcome-back-mummy-cuddle-with-tight-arms-and-open-mouth-kiss.

    Happy Easter!

Well.  My worst nightmare eventuated.     disobedient: Child sitting alone in corridor, holding head stock photos

    The daycare drop-off:
Started off smoothly, then Subject became a little unsettled when I made noises about leaving.  But I did the 'strong mother' thing and walked out (by now there were tears; his, not mine!!).

Half an hour later, back at home:
Couldn't help myself... I had to call the centre and check on him.  Apparently a rather substantial tantrum had ensued, complete with the usual toy throwing.  Did I dare show my face back there again?  We'd reached a milestone.  My son had thrown his first hissy fit in public.  And I wasn't even there to witness it!

    End of day:
Thankfully it all ended in smiles.  Enough to make me take him back next week :-)

Footnote: two days later, runny nose runs riot.

Until next time, may your sleep be peaceful,
